John P. Lower (1833-1917) was a Colorado pioneer gunsmith and firearms retailer. He owned and operated Sportsmen's Depot in Denver, where he conducted business with many legendary figures of the 19th and early 20th centuries, including William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, Kit Carson, and George Custer. Lower amassed a large collection of artifacts, many from the early Colorado frontier, including firearms and Native American peace medals.
